Brand new sheets of High Impact Polystyrene (HIPS), also known as plasticard or styrene. The sheets will have either two matt sides, one matt and one gloss, or one matt and one polished (usually protected by peel off film), this will depend entirely on what our supplier has in stock. If you wish to paint, or print on the plasticard, a matt surface is usually required, though not always necessary, we recommend testing first. If you require a specific finish, please get in touch with us, if we do not have it in stock, we may be able to special order it.
Please note, this item uses standard colours, and there isn't usually a colour variation between batches, however there is always a small chance of this happening. Also we try to use the best photos we can, but colour variations may occur due to different monitor settings, you may wish to enquire if we have any samples available.
Plasticard is easy to cut and shape and can easily be glued for use in making props, scenery, and the scratch building of various models, and scale accessories. We also stock other sheets of plasticard in various thicknesses, at the moment we have Black, White and Clear, however we intend to stock other colours soon, in the meantime other colours will be made available through special order, please contact us for more information. White styrene strips of various shapes such as rod, tube, beam, and channel, are also available in our shop.
High Impact Polystyrene, commonly referred to as HIPS, is a cost effective and lightweight sheet plastic which is ideally suited to thermoforming and printing applications. Benefitting from up to seven times greater impact strength than general purpose polystyrene, it is a low cost yet high performance plastic which excels in a variety of applications. Combining excellent forming qualities, good colouration and mechanical properties, HIPS is frequently used to manufacture of product prototypes. This is due largely to its low cost but is also thanks to the ease at which it can be fabricated, painted and glued; along with the fantastic dimensional stability of the finished item. The ability to be thermoformed makes HIPS a very versatile cut plastic material, and it is also a popular choice of material for creating a variety of storage and low strength transport containers. White HIPS is Food and Drug Administration approved and is therefore safe for use in food preparation environments and also with taste or odour sensitive products thanks to its low residual volatility. Other properties of HIPS which broaden the range of applications it is suitable for include its ability to accommodate paint and printing. This makes it a great material for a number of indoor point of sale, display and signage applications where it results in a terrifically lightweight and attractive finished product. The versatility of HIPS makes it a fantastically popular choice of material for a number of applications where an easy to handle, easy to thermoform, dimensionally stable and printer friendly sheet plastic is required.
